What has been going on…

I have been having tons of fun seeing how this new video feed and chat room connects me with the people watching. I’m curious: are people at work (I think most are)…are people playing games while they watch (I think some are) or are most just checking in and to see what’s happening on the feed?

Right now it’s down, for example, as my wife uses the good PC to check email’s and to write posts on her guild forum. When she comes home from lunch, there will be no standing in the way of her posting or checking email. It’s a good way for her to decompress a little bit from the stress of the day. So, the stream might go dead then.

I’m getting so used to letting it run as much as possible that when it is not running I get a little twitchy. Right now I want to be streaming something, but I need to write this post and let my wife do her thing. She works very hard.

She let me know that there would be no way that I could stream 24/7. I had been doing it, but either I let a game sit there looking at the landscape (which I like so that viewers can see different day/night cycles and watch as players go by,) or during the evening (or during the dog walking, showering, whatever) something happens and the feed dies, and then people can stare at my desktop. Doesn’t really bother me being that I don’t keep anything top secret on my PC at all, much less on the desktop, but still. I might work out where the region of streaming is and just have a picture in the background.

I am thinking of more ideas to stream and to show more. I am loving Google’s Lively, a 3-D chat room like Second Life or There, and eventually want to have a stream of a stream of a stream of a….you get the picture. Also, have a widget on my website that shows pictures and film clips taken from my phone.

That’s what all this is, really: an art project. I’m loving it. It’s like the Immersion Project plus some. Plus many. So, I’ll see where it goes. I’m fascinated by how technology has become so portable and can tie us into something like a blog so easily.

Thanks guys!

This experiment has been going GREAT.

So, after the 24 hours of gaming weekend, I felt as though I couldn’t just leave behind this killer app called “streaming video.” Over the years I have played almost every damn MMO out there, and intend on trying new ones anytime I can.

And what better way to show people the killer sites and sounds of MMO’s than to SHOW them?

Granted, it’s on a small screen on my website, but we have all become more accustomed to getting our news and entertainment delivered on these small screens in airports, at home or out at a coffee shop. In fact, I am going to wager something, based solely on how I feel about the small videos.

They make me feel nostalgia, even for things I am not familiar with. There is something about being able to pull out your laptop or to sit down in your warm home and pulling up a website that shows you another glimpse of someones elses’ world, especially in such a personal way. Blogs are very popular, and they are basically opinion pieces/diaries.

And I like the feeling that a good many people have said: “Hey, I have never seen this game…thanks for showing me!” even if the show is 3 inches wide. People get the gist of it pretty quick.

Also, I am fascinated (look at my Immersion/Station Rules) by alternate realities, and how people sometimes spend more time in these other realities than at their job, or at hanging with their family and friends. So, what better way to show how my other reality self’s are doing than by streaming the view from my eyes?

So the new stage of the Immersion Project begins: the video side. It would be financially impossible for me to have subs to all the games that I have ever played, but I am planning on at least slowly creeping up on the alts and sneaking video of them, and placing those video clips on the website.

Anyway, let me know what you think, and I appreciate all my old friends (and new ones) poking into my video stream everyday!

VoV episode 57!

Voyages of Vanguard #57
Thu, 16 Oct 2008 22:07:00 GMT [download/play]

Make sure to go to www.voyagesofvanguard.com to read my blogs and articles!

The highlight from show 57!:

* What have I been doing? How sick was I?
It’s a shorter, update show to remind everyone that this lil Raki has gone nowhere! I say goodbye to Ellyra and Glip, and talk a bit about what my lil Fox Dude has been doing.

Here is the Wiki article on the MMO “Seed,” the now defunct MMO that worked so well for my playstyle.

I am still looking for any contributions or segments, in MP3 form, for the show. Send em along and I can use them!

Email me at voyagesofvanguard@yahoo.com

See you next time!

Check out the schedule for Live Play ’08!

If you check back here on Saturday, the 18th of October, you can watch me play MMO’s all day, 24 hours straight. Just hit play on the lil video viewer thingy. I am usually streaming my MMO action, anyway. A slightly larger versions is available in the “menu” button on the viewer.

I am going to start at 9am and go ’til 9am the next day! This will be for charity, and for more info on where to donate click here, or go to my team’s page which is linked on that page.

Here is the schedule for the game. Vanguard and WoW are going to be played the most, the wife will be streaming a bit too. So there will more than likely be some schedule tweaking.

9AM – 12PM: Mabinogi

12PM – 6PM: Vanguard

6PM – 9PM: EQ2

9PM – 12AM: World of Warcraft

12AM – 3AM: Star Wars Galaxies

3AM – 6AM: Matrix Online

6AM – 9AM: EQ

Also, there is always the chance that the servers might go down, or something might fail. In that case, I will just switch to whatever game I find. I will probably do a few random fun ones like SWG or EQ2.

Now, go donate and make a difference, or just check the video out! Also, enjoy the new website..it’s being worked on you read this.

Updating website sucks life out of young man…story at 11..

So, for hopefully the last time, I am updating my website. What I mean by “for the last time” is to say that I finally am going to put all my different blogs, websites, and pic sharing all under one umbrella.

I play many different games, do a ton of art, and play plenty of shows. I want to be able to write about all these activities without being split into several websites. I found this perfect layout, and I think it will do the job for now.

So, keep checking back, I will be getting the site ready to go over the next week or so. This Saturday, the 18th of October you can watch me play 24 hours of gaming through the little video screen on my website. It will be for charity, so make sure to donate or sponsor.

Thanks for checking out the site..now go back and read a bunch of my crap.

Role Players Need No Rules

Roleplayers need no rules.

If someone tells you that you are not roleplaying correctly, you tell them to shove it. Over the last 10 years of online gaming I have learned that even logging into a game is an exercise in roleplay. They are not called “mmoRPG’s” for nothing.

But, as someone that has made rules for himself, (called my Immersion project , now called my Station Project to represent the Station Access games) I can tell you that rules are handy, but never something to obey no matter what. I made my rules to help me feel more connected to my character, not to give me less options. They were made to make my real life feel something like my characters life, and vice-versa, and the rules have nothing to do with other people.

Delicate Minds.

The merchant was being smart with me, and we both knew it. I had to keep playing the game until I got what I wanted.

“So you have seen him, or not?” I asked.

“Of course I have, which is a more expensive matter.” he said.

I sighed. I reached into my pocket, pulled out a few gold. His hand shot out, palm up, fingers motioning. I dropped the gold into his calloused filthy hand. “He was here buying supplies. Seemed to be in a hurry. When I asked him where he was going, he told me he needed to get to Tawar Galan  and wanted to know if I knew any ships to gain passage on.” “And what’d you tell him?” I asked. “I told him no, and he went off to the docks. Later Meliard told me he gave him a lift to Tawar. From there, I haven’t heard anything else.”

Satisfied, I flipped my hand at him and left.
