Me and Leala have discussed things for a while, and decided to break away from Virgin Worlds. This does not mean, in any way, shape or form, that we have any issues with Brent or the site. This is simply about having direct control over when our file goes up, and access to all sorts of information about the files. I cannot even begin to thank Brent for his contribution to not only Virginworlds, but to us as well, and for setting a bar for podcasting that, to this day, is a very high bar. This is a matter of spreading ourselve a little thin, as well, being that mmovoices.ning.com is taking over some of our time, along with writing for various sites and planning travel to games conventions.
We would like to tell people that if you normally get our podcast off of iTunes, that this current file in this current post is on a NEW feed, but we will be receiving the old feed soon. In other words, you might not see this podcast updated in iTunes. This is just a temporary holding area because we needed to get this show out before we recorded another. We finished it a while ago, and want to get the Blizzcon stuff out of the way and also do not want to be so late to the party.
Anyway, there it is. We will see you on the old feed as soon as we get control of it, and thank you for all your support. And of course, thanks MORE THAN WE COULD EVER TYPE to ViriginWorlds.com!!!!!
———————————–NOTES———————————————————-
Me and Leala sit down WITHOUT food (trying to keep the chomping noise down) to talk all about all the really cool stuff that was announced at Blizzcon. Needless to say, Blizzard wins again.
Then, I get to run down my list of really cool games that I am playing, beta’ing and looking forward to. I want all of you, yes ALL of you, to try these games and call the number with your thoughts!
And I wanted to add on to the show my interview with Mark and Steve from Ablegamers.com. I thought I would save it for the next show, but I wanted to get the interview out there. I’m so excited to be dealing with their site, so go visit it at ablegamers.com!!

Gathryn was a game I was excited to see as well, and I was happy about open-beta *cough alpha* until I played it. I didn’t last more than 20 minutes and I uninstalled it. Oh well, I know it’s early for them and I wish them success.
Ironically, I didn’t hear your cat at all. Just you guys talking to it. =P
I love it when WoW casual QQ players talk down to the WoW hardcore QQ raiders – always makes for an interesting exercise in hypocrisy. =)
Anyhow – I played the Fallen Earth open beta a bit. I loved the tutorial – it’s probably the best MMO tutorial I’ve ever played – but the rest of the game felt a bit flat after that. You go from a neat story-driven mission to “kill 10 rats” in an awful hurry, and frankly I’m sick of slaughtering the local wildlife for people.
I am interested to see how the hybrid shooter/hotbar combat appeals to players…. kudos to Fallen Earth for trying something a bit new.
Just what exactly do you mean by hypocrisy? Certainly you aren’t calling me a hypocrite are you?
The “hardcore QQ raiders” thing is an inside JOKE. I’m making fun of people who play the game too much and all the while piss and moan about it. I’m not exactly sure how I’d fit into a “casual QQ player”. I’m not one of those people who constantly complains about the game, just in case you aren’t aware. If you wanna insult me call me a fangirl who never says anything bad about the game, it would be more in line with the truth. Thanks.
Whoa there Leala – put the cork back in the rage bottle there.
WoW casual QQ players is just as much a JOKE as your hardcore QQ raiders swipe. Hence the smiley, which is pretty much as close as you can come to expressing some sort of emotion in text.
I just find it intensely amusing how all of the different types of MMO players like to take potshots at the other MMO players who don’t happen to share their own method of playing. It’s as silly as it is misplaced – and all of the in-fighting no matter who is doing it feels really hypocritical to me. (Rodney King: Can’t we all just get along?)
For example, you may dislike the numbers game and appreciate the reduction in WoW stat complexity, whereas someone else may be dismayed that a part of the game that they loved has been neutered for the second time in as many years. (i.e. the hundreds of writers and thousands of readers on the Elitist Jerks forum.) Neither view point is wrong…. they’re both equally valid.
Beau pretty much nailed it on this episode when he said that people who dislike changes enough will leave a game and find something that suits their tastes better. The beauty of MMOs (and gaming in general) is that there are so many games out there that there is bound to be something for everyone.
I used to get all enraged about the way WoW was changing, but I’ve since come to the realization that there’s nothing I can do about it except move on… and that’s fine with me. No game is tailored to any one specific person or group, and anyone who rages about “their game” shifting focus needs to take a reality pill. The choice will always be simple: embrace the change and keep playing, or reject it and move on.
No, no Andrew, the problem here is not that she made a joking swipe at “hardcore” raiders. If you knew Leala at all, or listened to her show, she not only supports “hardcore” raiding, but has never been the type to be a “QQ”. She explained to you what that means, and it means whining crying and bitching about nerfs and changes to your game. Again, if you don’t know how far off that is from Leala 99 percent of the time, then you cannot comment on Leala. She has not only put plenty of time into raiding and into examining ALL the numbers games, but the only difference between her and a “hardcore” raider is simply TIME. She was not making fun of hardcore raiders, she was making fun of WHINERS.
The real problem is that you called her a hypocrite. I understand that you put a smiley at the end, and meant nothing by it. But, how else do you take being called a hypocrite?
And please, never tell her to do anything. No corking, no “rage bottle” comments. You started by calling her a hypocrite, and now are calling her a rager. Not only did you get it off from the mark the FIRST time, but instead of just letting it go you added on something else. And your examples of “thousands” still means nothing. You admit that what I said was the truth: that players just leave a game that doesn’t suit their taste. Obviously there are many, many more than the thousands that really enjoy WoW, with all it’s watered down glory. And I’ll make you a bet: those that left will return for the expansion.
I am not, of course, saying that they don’t matter. They matter to them, just not to Blizzard. They just mean pretty much nothing if their voices will make no difference, which they obviously will not. Of course, there will be plenty of “hardcore” stuff to play through with the new expansion, but I will make you a solid, solid bet. Those “QQ” players that STILL bitch and whine about how raiding was watered down will come back to play during the expansion, will enjoy the challenges that it offers until they play through those challenges 400 times. Then they will complain that there is nothing left to do. That’s what a QQ player does. They always tend to forget that ANY activity, especially one like raiding that requires no more skill than changing the oil in your car for the first time, gets much, much easier over time.

Best podcast yet! Both of you are free to be who you are and we like that. Thanks!
